My name is Erika San Miguel. I have been working in Austin, Texas for about 10 years. Most of my teaching experience is at the secondary level, in high school, but I do have some experience working with elementary level students from a previous non-profit academic summer camp that I created and ran for five years. I believe this elementary experience helps me to be a better secondary teacher because I have found that the same classroom management strategies and tools work for all ages.
I hope to continue being involved in education in some capacity until I retire but for now I am a Language Arts Specialist on the Humanities Team in AISD; I also previously served as the instructional lead teacher and department chair at Akins High School.
I received my bachelor's degree from Texas State and my Master's in Educational Leadership from Concordia University.
I also love to write poetry and short stories, read (mostly fantasy and thrillers), and sing karaoke. Why not?
